Springtime then Summertime

I am so glad spring is here. I can not wait to walk to school in shorts. It is still a little cold in the mourning to do that, but we are almost there. I can not wait for school to be out and have an entire summer to relax and play outside. I was glad that I could go outside today and walk around on the grass without any shoes or a jacket. But when spring comes my allergies start acting up. But, other than that I love it when spring comes. When spring comes I start to be more active.

So today I walk around outside without any shoes. It felt good other than that our grass was so dry it felt like I was walking on needles. I can not wait for school to get out. As I am writing this my brother, who is playing Guitar Hero, is playing the song school’s out. I can not wait to be done with school so I can wake up when I want to wake up and I do not have to worry about doing homework or typing this blog. I can then relax and do what I want to do.

Of course one of the bad things about spring is allergies. The past months have been so bad some days have been so bad that I could hardly move and do any thing like last Wednesday I had a fever and I could barely stand, which is why I could not go to school. The next day I was a little better and I could go to school. I had a runny nose and I almost went through a whole box of tissues. I will be glad when my allergies are not acting up any more when it is summer time.

When it is winter time I get less active because I never go outside to play. Instead I stay inside and play on the computer or play video games. In the summer time I like to go outside and play football or ride my bike. I also go camping in the summer time which is fun. I go camping for over night, a week end, or sometimes days. I always enjoy sitting around the fire. I never really enjoy the sleep in the tent but it is worth it. I also like to go to surf and swim to do a little playing in the waves. I like it when it is a Tuesday night and it is just me and a couple of other people because I can do a lot of things and not bump into other people.

I can not wait for summer because we go on a lot of trips. The first week of summer break I will be in Washington DC. We may also go see our friends in California. The thing I am looking forward to is our traditional family camp out. It is when my grand parents get together with us and my aunts and uncles and cousins and we have a camping trip for a couple of days. It is fun because we play games and talk a lot. I can not wait for summer.

Washington DC

I can not wait to go to Washington DC. There are so many things that I want to see and do. We leave on May 30 and we will be there for about six days. It would be nice to stay longer but hotel rooms are real expensive. And it sometimes takes a few days to look at one site. I am sad that we will not be able to see the museum of natural history because it is closed for renovation. I can not wait for the trip it will be so fun. I am sad that I will miss the last two days of school but it is worth it.

There are so many places on my to see list. I want to visit all of the government buildings and all the monuments and other things there are to see. One place I can not wait to see is the aerospace museum. It is cool because they have the command modules of each program. They also have life size models of things off the space shuttle and other things like the lunar module. I also want to go to the Smithsonian. I would also like to see things like the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

Then there are all of the monuments and memorials. I can not wait to see the Washington monument. Most people think that it is just a tower but there is a lot of things on the inside and you can take an elevator up to the top and look through the observation windows. Then of course there is the Lincoln memorial that you have to see. Then there are other presidential monuments you have to see like the Jefferson and FDR memorials. Then there is the Holocaust museum that people say is a depressing thing to go and look at.

Washington DC is not what most people think it is. It is a very run down town and there is a lot of crime that goes on there. Most people think that it is a good city because in movies they only show you the good part of town which is where the government buildings and monuments are. When you are there you do not want to go out and walk the streets at night because there are a lot of muggers and it is just a scary place. You are usually safe during the day and then the town is a good place to be, but once it is dark you really want to stay in side. It does not matter to me because it is okay to be out at night if you stay in Virginia.

Washington DC is like New York a little they do have a lot of traffic. They have a Metro train and, I am not sure, but I think it is like the light rails in Salt Lake. This is what we will use and our hotel is only two blocks away from a station. It does go out of Washington DC and into bordering areas, which is why we can stay a little of the way into Virginia because the line we are next to can takes us strait to the monuments and government buildings. It will be a fun trip and I can not wait to go.

Being Sick

Being sick is never a fun thing, but everyone has to go through it at least once in your life. So here I am writing my blog while missing church because I am sick. When your sick it is hard to focus on any work and right now it is hard for me to sit at this computer and type. Of course I have taken some medicine which will help me be able to type this. I am just glad I do not have any math homework this week end. I just want to be able to go to school so I do not have to get caught up.

Being sick is never fun. You can always feel better by taking medicine. I hate taking medicine because I can not swallow a pill so I always take medicine in a liquid form. I have never actually had the will power to take pills. It all started when I was in the first grade and I was forced to take these pills to help me talk. I remember so many nights where my parents fought me to take the pill and to swallow it. I have tried a couple times after that, but I still was not able to swallow it.

The thing I hate most about being sick is if I have to miss school. So people love to be sick and miss school, but I do not like having to ketch up on the work I missed. I have some stories about having to work while I was sick. In 8th grade I had to make my poetry poster while I was sick and it was due the next day. Mrs. Deppe said that she would take none of them after that day even if you were sick on that day. So, I had my mom take it over their and my mom told her about it, and Mrs. Deppe said that she would have accepted it the day after.

I have no math homework but I do have to type an outline for geography because it is due tomorrow and I know Mrs. Van Vleet will not take it late because we are working in partners, and of course I told my partner I would take it home and finish typing it. So I have to do that after this and hopefully that will not take long. If I have to miss school tomorrow then I will have to make up a math test and what ever we do in the rest of my classes.

Of course when you are sick you do not have the ability to do a lot of things. Even eating becomes hard, especially when you are throwing up which I am glad I am not. So for the most part you watch TV or play video games and eat soup and drink gator aid. So far today I have watched about three hours of deadliest catch on the discovery channel. As soon as I finish my home work I will probably eat lunch followed by more TV. Then I will probably go to bed and decide if I will be able to go to school tomorrow.

New things

This week I have new things that I bought. There are also a lot of new things I am going to get. My brother is also planing on getting new things that I will, of course, play with. I started my week with 80 dollars and now I am ending my week with 10 dollars. Of course the 10 dollars is my allowance I got yesterday. It has been a pretty exciting week for me. I also went to the movie theater last night to see a movie. I will tell you more about it a little later on in my blog, but right now I am going to talk about my new stuff.

Well I am sort of a video game lover, but I do do things other than video games. The first thing I bought was another guitar for guitar hero so now me and my brother can play in a co-op band. We can also do things like face offs and battles. I have enjoyed the co-op band because it is a little different than the normal mode. There are four new songs you can unlock and one plays the guitar part while the other plays the bass part. We also have done face off and battles, but my brother became board of them when I was beating him a lot of the time.

I also download some games from older systems to my wii. I bought Super Mario 64 and Pokemon snap, even though I hate pokemon it is a fun photography game. I have played Mario a lot and already have 30 stars. I have even gotten some stars I never could get before. I really like the older games and I enjoy playing them. I have not played Pokemon as much but I have done one course, then my brother want me to play with him. The one bad thing about downloading games is that they take for ever and take even longer if some one is on the computer. It took almost and hour to download one game compared to the 25 minutes it took for the other one. I read some of my book while I was waiting and I read about 40 pages.

Last night I went to see Leather Heads. This is the movie about football with George Clooney and the person who plays Jim in the Office. It was a good movie and I enjoyed it. My brother is excited for this next weekend because a guitar store is going to have a sell and he is going to buy an electric guitar. I can not wait because then I can teach my self how to play it and then teach him if he can’t figure it out. He has been going on about it non stop for the past day. He says when he gets it he wants to learn how to play this song and then this song. I am not trying to discourage him but I know he can not just pick up that guitar and be able to play a certain song. It will take him a while to get to the point where he can play a big song by an actual band. I just love getting new stuff that I am sure all of you like to, too.

State Science Olympiad Competition

Yesterday was the state Science Olympiad competition. It was really fun and I had a good time. Since I was on the C team I did not have to worry about winning. I could just lay back and have fun. The B team won for the 13th year in a row like it always does. At the competition by our home room people were giving out free stuff. I picked up a poster that had all the mission patches on it. But the main purpose they were there was to talk to us about going to their university.

I competed in three events chemistry lab, food science, and boomilever. Chemistry was a little hard to understand and took me awhile to learn a concept. I thought that chemistry lab was kind of easy and that me and Luke, my partner for the event, did pretty well. Then food science was okay. Me and Luke, who was my partner for this event too, had to determine the amount of energy in a cashew. To do this you had to light the cashew on fire with a Bunsen burner and then set it on a plate which had a can of water over it with a thermometer that told us how hot the water was.

The last event I was on was Boomilever. For those who do not know it is kind of like crane but just the top part. To me this was the event I liked the most. We started to practice for this event by just getting a good design and improving it. To tell how good it was you had to test it. To test it you mount it onto the testing structure and then you have a block on the end of the boomilever with a chain on it. On the chain there is a bucket. You then fill the bucked with sand to see how many kilograms it could hold before it breaks. I felt very confident about this event.

After the competition was over and we ate dinner we went to the award ceremony. This is where they announced who won which events and the over all winner. I was so excited because I knew that I could get the silver medal for boomilever. As they were announcing it you never know if you are ahead or if you did not place at all. But sure enough I won the silver medal. Now I have one of each. I have one gold, one silver, and one gold. I also won a 1,500 dollar scholarship to the University of Utah.

After the award ceremony we went back to the school to have our traditional ice cream party. My aunt works at Smith’s dairy factory near Wal-mart. She can always get us ice cream for free or coupons for ice cream. We all got our ice cream and then we talked with each other. After that we went home. I enjoyed going to bed because this competition wears you out.

spring break

So far my spring break has been good. On Friday I stayed home. My friend from California came that night and I talked with him and we played my wii. They left around 8:00 because they were warn out from the drive. Yesterday I woke up early so I could go help people set up an Easter egg hunt. It was fun, I had to help hide the eggs. After it started we all ate breakfast then we let the kids find the eggs and then we cleaned up. After we were done we had to go around the neighborhood to pick up scouting for food bags. We had a lot of bags and a lot of food.

After that I went to get my hair cut, and then went for lunch. We ate at the food court and we were done at about noon. I then went home and watched a movie. The movie was dan in real life. It was pretty good even though I fell asleep in the middle. When the movie was over I finally found my phone that was missing for a couple of weeks, so I plugged it in because its obvious that the phone was dead. After that I helped my parents do some yard work. When we were done we went inside and my mom started to make dinner. My parents had to go to a wedding reception after dinner.

I threw the frisbee with my brother for a little bit. Then we went inside. He played on the computer and I played the wii. After my parents got home we sat out in our hot tub. We sat in it for about an hour and then we got out. Then me and my brother watched tv and then went to bed.

Today my grandma and grandpa are coming to eat dinner with us for Easter. My mom is cooking pork tenderloin. My aunt that is going to college is here for her spring break and she will be eating with us too. One of my older aunts and her family is coming also with their kids. It will be fun because we they can stay later because it is not a school night. We usually talk and watch tv or we play a game. Sometimes we even do both.

Tomorrow we are going to take our friends from California to the megaplex theater to see a movie. After that we are going to take them across the street and show them the rock climbing wall and everything. We might play a game of mini golf and play at the arcade. If I am lucky enough then we might do the surfing simulator. We probably won’t do the skydiving one because it is expensive. Same with the bowling it is not as expensive but would cost a lot . After we might come back to our house so the adults can play some more cards or we will go to different places and play.

High School

Many of you know that both high schools have been to our school to talk to us about our sophomore year. I am going to Layton High School. They gave us a hand out of what class we can take. After all of the required classes and seminary I only have about one year of electives that I can take. I might take some classes online. I will probably just doing the normal eight classes. And finish with the exact amount of credits need at the end of my senior year. I would have liked to graduate early but if you take seminary you can not.

There are many choices of classes you can take even the core classes you have can have different types, Like science there is biology, physics, and chemistry. After the core classes there are a lot of class you can choose from. Not all classes are offered to 10th graders. Some classes you can only take your senior year. You also have to look ahead for college because some colleges require two years of foreign language. Then you have to look beyond that so you know what kind of classes to take that will help you with the job you want.

I already knew what math I was going to take and that was pre-calc honors. I am in Algebra Two and I am doing good in that class. Science was a little tricky. They recommended that I should take a biology class, but the counselor that came to our school said I should take the Physics with Technology. I had a little trouble with english because I was trying to decide if I should take honors or not. One reason was that I did not want to take too many honors classes. Since they split the schedule into two days that I would be able to take honors english.

After I had decided my three core classes I had to decide on other required classes and electives. I had to decide between honors world civs. or regular world civs. I decided to go with the honors course. Then their was the other required classes I had to take, like health, fit for life, and computer tech. Then of course every 10th grader is taking drivers ed. That leaves me with two two year long electives. Of course one of those is filled by seminary. Now I have one year left which I am going to use to take spanish. I am trying to decide if I should move on to course two or if I should retake course one. I am mainly doing this so I can have the two years of foreign language if I go to a college that requires two years.

I can not wait for high school. We can leave school to eat lunch at restaurants. Ths sometimes makes you late for your next class, so you have to go somewhere close. I won’t leave every day, but when I do I know where I could go that would not make me late for my next class. The closest places to go would be across the street to the surf and swim snack shack, or to the arby’s that is just down the street and around the corner. It will be so much fun.
